The mocha pot with the model number “558” has undoubtedly become one of the hidden classics from Hedwig Bollhagen’s ceramics workshop. This timelessly simple mocha pot shaped the everyday design of the former GDR—and is now being rediscovered by design enthusiasts. Its defining features include the body’s straight, cylindrical shape, the long, elegantly curved, drip-proof spout, and the unadorned handle. The total height, including the lid with its mushroom-shaped handle, is 20 centimeters. With a capacity of 0.7 liters, the mocha pot is neither too small nor too large. The high functionality of this modernist, multifunctional mocha pot, combined with the utmost craftsmanship, embodies Hedwig Bollhagen’s maxim. “Beauty is what works”—that was her motto.
