Hedwig Bollhagen’s jar, model number “490,” strikes a successful balance between art and craftsmanship. “Beauty lies in functionality” was her motto. Its defining features are the cylindrical base, the conical body with a rounded bottom, and the flat, round lid. The ceramicist chose not to include a handle or any other grips.
