Founded in 1934, Hedwig Bollhagen created numerous bowls in addition to her "Töppen", cups and jugs in the Brandenburg ceramics manufactory in Marwitz until her death in 2001. From fruit bowls and cereal bowls to decorative bowls - the "unique pieces in series", as the ceramics company's motto went, are still made according to Bollhagen's designs to this day. Casting, turning, cleaning, firing, painting, carving; up to 60 work steps are necessary before a bowl can go on sale.

Today, ceramics connoisseurs associate Hedwig Bollhagen's ligature with the synthesis of art and craftsmanship. "HB" - Hedwig Bollhagen's initials - not only stands for quality and design in the international ceramics world from Marwitz to Manhattan, but also for award-winning ceramics. HB won her first gold medal at the Paris World Exhibition in 1937, under the motto that art and technology and the useful and the beautiful do not contradict but complement each other. The ceramic artist knew how to combine country house style and Bauhaus aesthetics in her bowls like no other. The result is timeless, practical and multifunctional utility ceramics: designer bowls, decorative bowls and footed bowls for hearty use. The five-piece set with sugar bowl (503A), cereal bowl (503B), children's bowl (503C) and the two large bowls (503D and E) is the pioneer among Bollhagen's bowls. As one of the first ceramic creations, the bowl set has been part of the Marwitz-based company's range since the 1940s. The beautifully shaped eared bowl (593) with its non-slip rim and the fruit bowl with foot (163) have only been part of the ceramic manufacturer's portfolio since 1958. The legendary "Kumpen" (549), the small and large orange bowl (190 and 198) and the confectionery bowl (174) were added to production at around the same time. The range of footed bowls (605, 610 and 612) in particular has continued to expand over the years. The Design footed bowl (600 and 601) in two sizes is particularly popular for serving petit fours, confectionery and pieces of cake. Equally popular is the Design fruit bowl with sieve insert (602), which has a recessed area for draining freshly washed fruit. The large (603) and small (604) fruit bowl on three legs is one of Bollhagen's most recent creations, dating from around 1998-2000. One thing is certain, it is not just the delicacies on the raised ceramic plates that are eye-catching.
