Nora Herz – friend and companion

Nora Evelyn Herz (May 13, 1906 in Hipperholme, England, † December 25, 1999 in London), sculptor, ceramist and author. In 1927 she put her friend Hedwig Bollhagen in contact with Margarete Heymann and in 1933 she prepared the rebuilding of the HB workshops for ceramics in the former Marwitz furnace factory. As a result, the work of the bankrupt stoneware factories Velten-Vordamm and the closed Haël workshops for artistic ceramics can be resumed.

Nora Herz has been working in Berlin since 1934 in a joint studio with the ceramist Emil Pottner. This is where the animal sculptures that are sold by the HB workshops are created. The forms are still there today.

Nora Herz has been working in New York since 1941, exhibiting her work as part of New York Ceramic Art. She is honored with art awards and teaches at the Newark Museum of Art until 1955.
